Keep track of proposed zoning changes automatically

If you’re a resident and you don’t want to be surprised about zoning changes your alder proposes in your neighborhood, or if you’re a contractor and you want to know what construction projects are heading into the bidding pipeline, you’re gonna love our new feature.

Scroll down for neighborhood news

Our notifications will tell you about proposed zoning changes and sales of city-owned land before they’re approved.

Don’t wait until you see a notification on a sign pole or the outside of a building — sign up now.

There are two ways to keep up:

  1. Sign up for Place notifications (neighborhood, ward, or a personally-drawn area) and we’ll email you if something comes up there
  2. Sign up for Address Snapshot notifications and we’ll email you if something is proposed within two blocks

Pro members can subscribe to an unlimited number of Places and Address Snapshots, and Neighbors can subscribe to one of each. Start a free trial of Pro membership today.

…and three ways to browse:

  1. Show all of the ordinances on the Ordinances page
  2. Search for an address (like 1200 W Lake St) and we’ll list all of the proposed zoning changes and city-owned land sales within two blocks
  3. Load a Place page (like Near West Side) and we’ll list all of the ordinances inside that boundary

Since we originally announced this on Tuesday we’ve added listings of proposed and approved property tax incentives for businesses, and proposed and approved historical landmarks.

All of this information comes from the Chicago City Clerk’s official legislation website, via Chicago Councilmatic.

Send us your feedback—with what other kinds of information would you like us to notify you?
