We are working on a new map that shows you where people have reported buildings that are vacant or abandoned.
The map is symbolized by “violations hearings status” so you can quickly see which of the reported buildings’ owners have a past or upcoming violation hearing date. A red marker in the map above indicates a reported building with an upcoming violation hearing.
This year, through October 3, 2016, people have made 4,480 reports about 3,978 buildings to 311, identifying them as vacant or abandoned. Callers — reports can be submitted online — also give information about boarded status, and whether they believe people are using the building or if the vacancy/abandonment is the result of a fire.

1,371 of these reports are associated with 1,168 buildings that have had, or will have a violation hearing at the Chicago Department of Administrative Hearings, with an administrative law judge.
155 of these reports are associated with 127 buildings that have an upcoming hearing.
Duplicate buildings are not automatically combined on the map, because each report about a building is different. The reports’ dates are important to establish a timeline of activity at the building, and details about the building’s use may change.
