Ask Cityscape: How often is our data updated?

Published on Aug. 23, 2017 by Steven Vance

Today we got a question about how often we update our building code violations map. The short answer is “every 30 minutes”, but it’s more complicated than that because there usually isn’t new data that often.

Here was our full response:

“We check for new data on code violations, building permits, and most of our other sources, every 30 minutes. New Chicago data is usually posted once per day, between 7–9 AM, which is why we check so frequently and only send our email notifications at 9 AM.”

Occasionally our processes get stuck, or miss some data. We try our best to find these instances, but if you think there’s a gap in the data please let us know and we’ll fix it ASAP.
