Applications are due in a week

The National Main Street Center, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is offering a grant of services valued at $50,000 to three neighborhood business districts in Chicago. Applications for the “Urban Main” program are due next Monday, March 5. Applicants must provide a $25,000 match, up to half of which can be staff time instead of cash.

The services will result, according to the RFP, in “market assessment, organizational assessment, and community asset mapping and engagement in order to help neighborhood development groups arrive at a sustainable and equitable strategy for economic growth”.

The services grant will be awarded to one neighborhood organization in 2018, and two more organizations, in other neighborhoods, in 2019.

Some of the eligibility factors are:

  • defined boundaries of your neighborhood commercial corridor
  • comprises some older and historic building stock
  • has an existing funding stream in place (like a Special Service Area, or philanthropic support)

Read the RFP to review the application requirements.

What neighborhood commercial corridor with an established managing or overseeing organization do you think should apply for these services?
