It hadn’t crossed my mind that some cities don’t own their light poles!
Recent related developments in my neck of the woods, in Chicago, which owns its light poles:
- The Chicago Transit Authority struck a deal with wireless carriers, via Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s opaque Infrastructure Trust, to pay for adding 4G cell nodes in all of the subway tunnels and stations, simultaneously with a project that was upgrading the CTA’s internal wireless communications system.
- The City of Chicago, the University of Chicago, and Argonne Laboratory, installed 5 “Array of Things” sensors this summer. They do too much to explain here.
